Road Racing Series Heads To Mid Ohio For Grand Nationals
06.09.2008 - The Dunlop Tire Road Racing Series driven by Mazda will make stop no. 4 of 8 with the running of the Elite Karting Grand Nationals the weekend of June 13-15 at the famed Mid Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, OH. This year's event, hosted annually by the Dart Kart Club, will provide the perfect canvas for a weekend full of exciting competition, as road racers from all over will be on hand.
As with all WKA Grand National events, competitors will vie for the coveted WKA Eagle trophy along with a custom embroidered WKA Grand National jacket. In addition, the weekend will provide the opportunity for racing families to celebrate the Father's who support their racing.
Pre-entries are still coming in strong according to DKC officials and are predicted to exceed 350 by the start of the event. And, with the rescheduling of the Road America SuperNationals to July this year, both events should experience excellent attendance, despite the continued rising costs of fuel.
The weekend activities will begin with competitor load-in on Thursday, June 12. There are a few changes you will notice when you arrive for this year's event; specifically, you must purchase your pit pass at the registration building located on your left as you enter the track (not at the guard building as before). You will receive a wristband for your pit pass and another one for signing the Mid Ohio track board. Pit pass sales will begin at 4:30pm. The DKC parking crew will enter at 5pm followed by WKA & DKC sponsors and garage holders at 6pm. Once these groups are in and settled, all others will be allowed into the pit area. Pre-entry pickup, registration and Pre-race tech will be open Thursday evening.
On-track racing activities begins Friday with the day dedicated to practice providing participants the opportunity to test and tune their equipment and "Eagle chasing" will be Saturday and Sunday. In addition to the WKA National classes, DKC will offer a variety of local option classes. Awards will be recognized back to 10th place!
Below are several reminders to help prepare you for your visit to Mid Ohio.
* Camping is allowed and showers are available.
* Electric is limited to garage holders. (All garages have been rented.)
* Pets are NOT allowed.
* The official track opening time is 7am daily, however, if you have already purchased your pit pass, you can get in at any time.
* The track fuel is Sunoco 110 and is credit or debit card only.
* Notice: Many retail gas pumps contain ethanol now. The WKA fuel guidelines do not include a waiver for gas containing ethanol. Please be aware of fuel purchased at gas stations.
* WKA rules require a working Fire Extinguisher present in all pits.
* Mid Ohio requires a special waiver be completed for all drivers under the age of 18. The waiver must be completed and submitted to DKC prior to the event. Click here for the waiver.
Lastly, based on discussion items from the last meeting, the WKA Road Race Committee is calling a meeting of 125 Shifter drivers as well as piston port can, Yamaha sportsman and pipe enduro drivers, tentatively scheduled to begin after the Saturday races. More information will be announced at the event.
