WKA Headed Back To Daytona Again
05.28.2008 - Following a most successful return in December after a one year hiatus, the World Karting Association is proud to announce their plans for the continuation of Daytona KartWeek presented by Cometic Gasket at the famed Daytona International Speedway, Dec. 27-30, 2008.
Once again "The World Center of Racing" will be filled with the sights and sounds of kart racers from around the country as the Dunlop Tire Road Racing Series driven by Mazda tackle the Daytona high banks and infield road course. During that same time, the George Kugler Bridgestone Manufacturer's Cup Series driven by Mazda will go wheel to wheel on the challenging infield sprint track.
"The relationship with Daytona International Speedway has been a very important element of WKA's history and future. WKA is very pleased to continue it's enduring partnership with the Speedway to kick off the 2009 race season at this historic facility in a great community" commented WKA President Rick Dresang.
"We're excited to continue the holiday tradition of hosting the WKA at 'The World Center of Racing'", said Speedway President Robin Braig. " We look forward to another exciting world class event here at the speedway."
Keeping with tradition, the holiday classic will begin with load in on December 27th, followed by a full day of practice December 28th. The quest for the 2009 national championships for each series will then begin with race days on Dec. 29-30.
In addition, following successful participation in 2007, plans are underway to once again host the "Welcome Back to Daytona Party" on the evening of the 27th. Complimentary food and beverages, as well music in the Sprint FANZONE, and Chevy Hot Lap rides around the famous 2.5 mile Superspeedway, are once again on the agenda.
As WKA celebrates the beginning of a new season, they will also place the finishing touches on 2008 by honoring the previous years champions in both series at their annual awards banquet at the exclusive Daytona 500 Club.
