"Linear Sport / GBR Racing Claims Two Victories at WKA Manufacture's Cup Finale"
DOUSMAN, Wis. -- The Linear Sport / GBR Racing Team took home its first WKA Manufacture's Cup victories at Badger Raceway this past weekend. Team drivers Jordan Bachmeyer and Craig Baltzer put in dominating performances in the HPV Jr. Sportsman and HPV Heavy categories. The two victories capped off a hugely successful event for the team that saw the Linear Sport / GBR Racing colors at the front of the field all weekend.
The Linear Sport / GBR Racing Team put on a strong showing on Saturday competing in three classes. In Yamaha Jr. Sportsman Bachmeyer showed his speed as he qualified off pole. In the final the young driver put on a fine display to take the checkered flag driving away from the field at the end. Unfortunately Bachmeyer had his win taken away for a non performance tech issue.
In the TAG division Blake Krieger put in a career drive. The 16-year-old Minnesota driver, who has shown great improvement all season, put his Linear Sport prepared Merlin off pole in qualifying. After slipping back in the prefinal Krieger drove like a veteran in the final. The GBR Racing driver was able to move up from ninth to sixth in the final and was challenging for the podium at the finish.
In HPV Lite the Linear Sport / GBR Racing team was led by Craig Baltzer. Baltzer who has been quick in every race this year once again showed his speed. After running in the top 5 in qualifying and the prefinal the Linear Sport team went to work to improve his Merlin chassis. In the final Baltzer lead with two laps to go but was shuffled back to fourth after defending the lead. Not giving up Baltzer was able to regain one spot to finish third at the stripe. Ryan Stringfield the team's newest driver continued to improve after a year hiatus from the seat running 11th in his first national of the year.
Sunday the Linear Sport / GBR Racing team came out to avenge the near misses from Saturday. Bachmeyer proved the previous day's run was no fluke by claiming the pole in HPV Jr. Sportsman. The Minnesota driver would go undefeated on the day claiming the prefinal and final. The final was a nail biter, Bachmeyer and Nick Neri battled for the lead for the last 4 laps with Bachmeyer claiming the lead on the white flag lap to claim his first National win. Grant Krieger also had a strong run as the GBR Racing driver put together his career best qualifying run to place 5th on the grid. After running 5th in the prefinal Krieger dropped back at the start of the final to 7th. Keeping his head down Krieger had climbed back into the top five and was battling for fourth when he spun trying to make a pass dropping him down the order.
The HPV Heavy Final was all Craig Baltzer. After qualifying fourth and finishing fifth in prefinal, the team knew they had a shot in the final. With some minor changes to Baltzer's Merlin chassis, the former Formula Ford 2000 driver had the kart to beat in the final. From fifth Baltzer moved up two spots at the start, and on lap three assumed the lead. From there he would never look back as he cruised to the victory by 10 kart links over second place.
"What a great weekend for our drivers," Linear Sport principle Steve Welk said after the weekend. "We have been so close to a national win this year it's great to see it come to fruition in both the sportsman and senior classes. I really have to hand it to all my drivers, Craig, Blake, Ryan, Jordan and Grant, they drove very well this weekend. I want to thank my crew, Mikey, Theo, Noonan and Todd, they worked their tails off this week and I can't thank them enough. I also have to give credit to Gordan Bachmeyer, he has been a huge asset to our Jr. Sportsman program this year and contributed a ton to its success."
The Linear Sport / GBR Racing Team heads next to Shawano, Wis. to finish off the Midwest Sprint Series season August 25 -- 27.
