Construction Delays Send Round 2 of the West Division to Move to New Location
Seattle, WA (May 5, 2006) -- Round 2 of the West Division of the Snap-on Stars of Karting presented by the IRL, originally slated to run June 2-4 at the new Downtown Events Plaza and surrounding streets of Henderson, NV, has been moved to the Buffalo Bill's Resort & Casino just south of Las Vegas in Primm, NV due to construction delays which compromised the planned layout of the track within the Events Plaza. "The original track layout was to run through the middle of the new Henderson Events Plaza. However, due to construction delays this will not be possible on the first weekend of June. Upon investigating an infinite number of other possibilities for track layouts, series officials decided to change venues in the interest of safety for competitors, fans, and officials," said Series President Paul Zalud. The decision to postpone the debut of the downtown layout was made collectively between officials in the City of Henderson, and the Snap-on Stars of Karting presented by the IRL. Putting on a safe and quality event was the main factor in the decision and no alternate track layouts could ensure that outcome.
The Henderson venue however will, host a non-championship Snap-on Stars of Karting event in the completed Henderson Events Plaza on the weekend of October 20-22, 2006. The race will take the place of the previously scheduled North American Championships in Norman, OK.
Series Marketing Director Jeff Swoboda is very optimistic about the future of the Henderson venue, "This isn't something we planned on, but nonetheless I'm still very excited about the potential that the venue in downtown Henderson, as well as the marketing team the City of Henderson is putting behind the project, will have to raise the profile of karting. We're fortunate that the people at Buffalo Bill's are stepping up to help us with this situation and we want to thank them for that. Buffalo Bill's will be a great facility and we look forward to racing there."
