SPENCER PIGOT SCORES POLE AND PODIUM AT MORAN
"Another strong run for talented rookie pilot"
Windermere, Florida -- September 19, 2007 -- FirstKart.com Junior Intercontinental A (JICA) pilot Spencer Pigot had another strong run at this past weekend's Snap-on Stars of Karting presented by IndyCar Series West Division finale at Moran Raceway in Beaumont, California. The SunTrust Junior Driver scored his third pole position in Stars of Karting competition this season as well as another strong podium in Sunday's main event.
In Saturday's action, Pigot qualified his SunTrust Woltjer powered First Kart in the tenth position after some carburetion troubles impeded him from setting a quicker time. Making it through the first corner and advancing up the running order was the goal for the prefinal and the Floridian did just that by finishing seventh allowing him to start inside row four.
Pigot got a great jump at the start of the final as he avoided contact in the first corner and at the completion of lap one was running in P6. However, the run at the front was short lived as a flat tire on the second circuit ended Pigot's chances at victory. The talented driver continued to circuit the Moran raceway facility and was eventually classified in the twelfth position.
Looking to turn his luck around on Sunday, Spencer Pigot went out and turned the fastest lap of the morning qualifying session to claim the Gatorz Pole Award for the third time this season. Pigot utilized the inside front row starting position to lead the prefinal from flag-to-flag which gave him the pole for the feature event as well as the more preferred inside line in corner one.
The start on Sunday's final did not go as planned for Pigot as secured the lead through the first few corners but eventually lost it in the back half of the race course. The Windermere, FL. resident would finish lap one in P3 and eventually fall back to fifth by the end of lap five. Showing his grit and determination, Pigot battled through the opening lap miscue and began setting some of the fastest race laps as he chased down the leaders. Pacing with the lead four drivers, Pigot eventually moved into the third position and claimed the final podium position.
"I had a great kart today," explained Pigot after the event. "I made a small mistake half way through the event that cost me some time and that was the difference in the end. I'd like to thank SunTrust, FirstKart.com, Woltjer Race Engines, Wayne Taylor, my tuner Mike Maurini and my parents for making this all possible."
