PHIL DE LA O SCORES DOUBLE WINS IN NEW CASLE
"Arizona pilot leads overall points"
New Castle, Indiana -- June 3, 2008 --Advanced Karting pilot Phil De La O had another great outing this past weekend at the Snap-on Stars of Karting presented by IndyCar Series Mazda Race of the America's at the New Castle Motorsports Park in New Castle, Indiana. After a successful test the week prior to the event, the talented Phil De La O went on to claim both final victories and the overall points lead.
After Friday's official timed sessions, De La O and his crew went to work to find the necessary speed to move up in the time sheets. De La O was in an unfamiliar area after Friday's last timed session as it was the first time the talented pilot has been outside the top ten all season long. Progressing through Gatorz Pole qualifying, De La O was still slightly off the pace as he was only able to turn the tenth quickest time of the session and would have to battle hard through the heat races to have a shot at the victory.
Like any championship contender, De La O did exactly what was needed in the heat races to have a shot at the overall win. The talented pilot stayed out of trouble and managed to claim third and fourth place finishes giving him enough points to start both final events from inside the second row.
"After qualifying tenth, I thought we were in for a long weekend," explained Phil after the Saturday's events. "Tomorrow is going to be a big day as there are several points available for the championship. I'd like to leave New Castle with the points lead and work on garnering the national title."
As the opening ceremonies came to a close and the tension mounted, De La O was anxious to get his events underway. Looking calm and cool in his High-Rev powered TonyKart, Phil had one thing on his mind, victory. When the green flag flew, De La O jumped into the second position early and stalked the leader lap after lap. Looking for the perfect opportunity, De La O did not want to take any chances of being taken out of the race. As the laps wound down, De La O made a draft move down the back straight to take the lead and the eventual victory in the first round of finals.
Looking to repeat his success in final two, De La O got another great start and once again worked with the current leader to draw away from the field. Like a carbon copy of the first final, De La O used his High-Rev horsepower to sneak by the leader and claim his second victory of the weekend.
Phil would like to thank his current sponsors and supporters for a successful 2008 season to date: Advanced Karting, High-Rev Engines, Northwest Floor and Wall as well as his family.
