Success continues at New Castle Motorsports Park
Brownsburg, Indiana -- May 22, 2007 -- The FirstKart.com race team scored some very strong results at this past weekend's Snap-on Stars of Karting presented by IndyCar Series event held at New Castle Motorsports Park just outside Indianapolis, Indiana. Taking home two podium results was Canadian Junior Intercontinental A (JICA) pilot Brendan Langlois while Spec Racer competitor Zach Beard scored another.
FirstKart.com driver Alan Rudolph entered the ultra competitive ICC division and came home with two strong runs in both finals. After a disappointing Saturday feature that saw Rudolph get caught up in an incident and finish 21st, the veteran pilot managed to rebound and have a strong run on Sunday to score a solid seventh place finish.
Three members of the FirstKart.com race team entered the JICA class with Brendan Langlois taking home two podium results. Langlois was fast right from the first practice session and with some fine tuning, he could contend for both victories. Langlois qualified his ride inside the top ten on both Saturday and Sunday and followed his strong time trial runs with a second and third place feature results at the end of the weekend. Combined with his podium finishes at the Race of the Americas, Langlois now has unofficially taken over the national championship point lead. Floridian pilot Spencer Pigot again impressed in his rookie season as the talented junior was able to run inside the top ten for most of the weekend. Pigot finished up Saturday in the 11th position and progressed to take the pole in Sunday's action. After an on track incident in the first corner of the final, Pigot would be forced to continue his race from the tail of the field where he would set a blistering pace to finish just inside the top ten. Pigot was able to run laps quicker than the leaders on almost every circuit and would take home the second quickest laptime of the contest. Arizona rookie pilot Phil De La O made his second national level race start as he continues to make steady progress. De La O showed a quick pace throughout Saturday's action but an on track incident would force him to retire early. Sunday was a different story for De La O as he methodically worked his way forward throughout the final to score a solid 13th place finish.
Colorado Springs pilot James Michael Sullivan proved that he can race with the top dogs in the Snap-on Stars of Karting Cadet class. Sullivan was able to garner the third quickest laptime in Friday's timed sessions and was hoping to use that momentum in the weekend's feature events. Looking for some strong results, Sullivan was once again very unlucky as he was taken out of contention in both finals due to incidents that he could not avoid.
Florida Winter Tour Spec Racer winner Zach Beard claimed a third place result in Saturday's main. Looking to improve in Sunday's action, Beard controlled the majority of the race leading more then 60% of the race laps. With five laps remaining, a slight miscue by a fellow competitor caused him to slow dramatically and with Beard right on his bumper, an accident could not be avoided. Zach tried to continue the event but was classified in the 17th position when the checkers flew.
FirstKart.com's newest team member Andy Lee was also in competition this weekend as he turned his first laps in a First kart on Friday morning. Improving with each and every session Lee gelled with the team well to the point that he was leading Sunday's final. By providing great feedback after every session, team personal were able to work with Andy easily and setup the kart to his driving style. Lee scored a 13th place result in Saturday's action and a strong sixth place finish on Sunday.
The FirstKart.com race team will be out of racing action for a few weeks but will be hitting the test track in preparation for the first West coast event in the Snap-on Stars of Karting presented by IndyCar Series to be held at Miller Motorsports Park in early July.
