Sweet and sour podium
Montreal, Quebec -- Mai 22, 2006 -- Sportimage.net -- The 2nd round of the American series Stars of Karting took place this weekend in New Castle in Indiana, on the other side of the border. Several drivers from Quebec competed in the event, including Christophe Boisclair, from Terrebonne, in the ICA class.
Boisclair, 15 y.o., is racing in senior categories for the first year with 7 years of experience in junior classes where he won 2 canadian titles and raced 3 times at the Rotax Max Challenge World Finals. In the Stars of Karting events, Saturday and Sunday are 2 independants day, both with qualifying, followed by a pre-final and a final races. Boisclair (Arrow / TM by SRA) started the weekend very well with the pole position on Saturday with a time of 1:03.706. In prefinal, he finished 7th, not excellent, but not bad either to start the final race. In the final race, he was running well when his engine seized. He officially finished in 16th place, 2 laps behind the leaders.
His pole position during the qualifying session gave him the opportunity to race in the \"Bridgestone Dash for Cash race. This race regroup the top 2 qualifiers in the ICC, ICA, ICA jr and Spec classes. Boisclair won this race and received the big prize of $1000 US for his victory.
On Sunday, Boisclair had the opportunity to set aside his mechanical problem of the day before. Sunday was completely different for him. After having problem with his throttle cable during the qualifying session (qualified 22nd), he ran fast in the pre-final race to climb to the 11th position. In the final race, Boisclair continued his good work and took the lead of the race until the last corner where Calbe Loniewski passed him to win the race with the small gap of 0,072 second over Boisclair. \"Of course, taking the 2nd step of the podium over 40 competitors should be normally satisfying but loosing the race at the last corner if very disappointing. I do not have a lot of experience in this class and I could have managed the temperature of my engine a lot better to be able to keep the first place. I'll try to catch the win next time\" said Boisclair.
The next round of the Stars of Karting will take place on July 8th in Charlotte, North Carolina.
