CHAMPION RACING/INTREPID USA READIES FOR STARS OF KARTING WESTERN OPENER
Team Intrepid adds talented pilot Cody Jolly to driver list for Utah event
NORMAN, OK (April 24, 2008) -- Champion Racing/Intrepid USA began its attack on the 2008 Snap-on Stars of Karting presented by IndyCar Series very strongly, heading to Florida earlier this month for the series opener. This weekend, the powerhouse karting team will now look to continue that effort at the program's Western Division opener at the Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah. Entering the weekend, the team has acquired one of the top rising stars in the ICC division in Cody Jolly, further strengthening an already venerable squad.
Cody Jolly, who hails from Houston, Texas, recently signed with Champion Racing/Intrepid USA to campaign the remainder of the 2008 season. Jolly currently sits fourth in the Eastern standings after a seventh and third place finishes in Ocala in his Stars ICC debut. Having run in the ICA category last year, Jolly is among the many direct-drive pilots who made the move to the shifter class for '08. The Texan will be running alongside the current Eastern Division point leader, Jordy Vorrath, under the Champion tent. The Canadian stood on the second step of the podium twice in Ocala to claim the number one spot in the standings following what was a trying weekend. Vorrath was fast at Miller last year and he should be among the contenders this weekend as well. Joining the duo in ICC will be Chance Terrell, who will be making his '08 Stars debut in Utah.
In the ultra-competitive Stars TaG class, Champion Racing/Intrepid USA will have Joey Wimsett and Mukul Sud carrying the flag. Wimsett - who will also be testing a Formula BMW car on Friday on the big track at Miller Motorsports Park following the karting practice sessions - had a stellar drive last year, coming from the tail of the field to a podium finish. Coming in with a much different agenda, Sud will be visiting the facility for the first time and will look to gain experience while aiming for a top-10 result. Broc Yocom will be the lone Cadet driver flying the Intrepid colors and he is expected to improve after making an engine builder switch during the off weeks.
The final Champion Racing/Intrepid USA driver will be Bryan Eady, who will run in the TaG ICC class. Eady - who is also supported by Leading Edge Motorsports - had a runner-up finish in the new class at Ocala.
Joining Champion Racing in the Intrepid USA compound at Miller will be the West Coast distributors for the brand - Leading Edge Motorsports and Checkered Flag Racing. The Northern California-based Leading Edge operation, led by owner/tuner Greg Bell, will bring a strong list of drivers to Utah. Former Stars Western Division ICA champion Jess Peterson will run in ICC, while Timmy Bachman, Brett Felkins and Mason Marotta will be under Bell's tutelage in JICA. Diede Racing, a works LEM support team, will have three front-running TaG drivers in the field as Cody Diede, Troy Diede, and Utah race winner Colin Katzakian, are all hungry to stand on the podium. Checkered Flag Racing will field a group of drivers in the new TaG ICC class, including 2007 Spec Racer national champion Devon Sandeen.
In progression news, Champion Racing is proud to announce that the team's former ICA driver Tyler Dueck will be competing in the Italian Formula Renault championship this season with the support of Italian-based Intrepid Kart Technology factory. Dueck is hoping to progress through the European junior formula ranks to his dream of racing in Formula 1.
