Buddy Rice to Drive for Tony Kart USA at the All Stars Karting Classic
Seattle , WA -- (November 14, 2006) : 2004 Indianapolis 500 winner Buddy Rice is the latest motorsports star to declare his participation in the All-Stars Karting Classic event at the PRI Show on December 14. Rice, who drove for Rahal-Letterman Racing the last three seasons in the Indy Racing League and competed in the ChampCar season finale in Mexico City this past weekend will race for the Tony Kart USA squad at the event.
"Karting has always been a really big part of my life, I think that no matter where a driver is in his career, he should always be karting. It is an honor for someone like Bryan Herta, who has done so much in his career and been such a driving force behind Stars, to invite me to be a part of such a great event."
Rice joins a growing list of drivers from a variety of motorsports that will participate in the Masters Division at the event including Marco Andretti (IRL), Bryan Herta (IRL), Tomas Scheckter (IRL), Ron Capps (NHRA), Doug Herbert (NHRA), Wayne Taylor (Grand-Am), and Memo Gidley (Grand-Am).
The top drivers from the Karting division of the event will advance to take on the Masters drivers in the Final race of the evening. Bryan Herta, Snap-on Stars of Karting founder and co-owner, is excited to have Rice competing at the event, "Buddy has become a great friend over the last few years, and I'm very excited that he will be able to participate in the All Stars Karting Classic. I know he will bring a lot of excitement to the race both on and off the track. It's only the first year of the event, but with Buddy and some of the other top names coming out to race it should be an awesome race."
Rice not only has a strong karting background, but he and his father, Bud Rice, own a karting shop, Racerworld Kartsports, in Phoenix, AZ which is a Tony Kart dealer.
The race will be organized by the Snap-on Stars of Karting presented by the IRL and filmed for two separate one-hour broadcasts on the Versus Network (OLN) with Snap-on advertising support. The featured teams at the event will be the SSC East, First Kart North America, Trackmagic, Tony Kart USA, Sodi Racing USA, Grand Products-Top Kart, Champion Racing-Intrepid, and BTK-Arrow teams from the Snap-on Stars of Karting presented by the IRL. The racers will utilize karts with the popular 125-cc electric start spec engines that have proliferated the marketplace in recent years. Series title sponsor Snap-on Tools has also stepped up to support the event on multiple levels as have Douglas Wheels and Alpinestars.
