Canadian Karting sending two racers to Molson Indy.
Toronto, Ontario (July 04, 2002): Canadian Karting is proud to support two drivers competing in this weekend's Molson Indy Toronto. Brian Nielsen and Shane Jantzi, both former kart racers, will compete in the Canadian Formula Ford Championship race scheduled for Sunday afternoon.
Jantzi, 30, from Ayr, Ontario, has considerable racing experience. He has been very successful at the regional level and will compete in selected Canadian Formula Ford Championship events this year in anticipation of running the complete series next year. Nielsen, 21, from Haydon, Ontario, is running all nine rounds of the national series this year after winning the Ontario regional Formula 1600 championship in 2001. Following mechanical problems in the season opener and getting knocked off the track in the last race, he is ranked twelfth in the championship standings heading in to round four.
"I'm proud to help a couple of former kart racers try to achieve their goals," said Roy Brydon of Canadian Karting. "Brian and Shane both work very hard on their racing efforts, but do not have the staggering financial backing sported by some drivers in the Formula Ford series. I'm very happy to play a small part in their endeavours."
Nielsen has targeted qualifying in the top ten and finishing in the top five, while Jantzi, for whom this will be his first national event, is aiming for a top-ten finish.
The Formula Fords have two qualifying sessions, Friday at 4:00 pm and Saturday at 1:00 pm. The race is scheduled for 4:00 pm Sunday.
