New team gets karting season off to a good start for Travis Walker

HAMILTON, ONTARIO - Travis Walker made his 2004 karting debut this past weekend in Hamilton Ontario, site of the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship Presented by Toronto Star Wheels. Walker has joined SH Karting for this championship, and Walker is excited about his new team and the results they generated this weekend.

"First and foremost, I have to say thanks to SH Karting, and especially Shawn Duriez, who was my tuner at Hamilton," Walker said. "The team really went out of their way to make me feel welcome, and they put a great Tony Kart package together that I immediately felt comfortable with."

Walker qualified sixth for Round 1, a scant .372 off the pole. "It is amazing how competitive this class is. I went faster in the qualifying for the second round, was only .263 off the pole, yet I was eighth! Now, you have to put in the perfect lap, with the perfect setup to be on the pole here. A slight bobble and you could find yourself in 20th!"

In Round 1, Walker moved up one spot to finish fifth, and in Round 2, he held his qualifying position to finish eighth. "The Tony Kart was great, but remember this is my first weekend with this chassis." Walker said of his run. "I know there is more in that chassis and motor package. I just have to work really hard to build this relationship with my new team. We'll be good at Barrie in a few weeks time."

SH Karting's Gary Werve was excited about having the highly touted Walker join his Quebec based team. "He is a known shifter driver," Werve said. "He worked well with Jonathon Fecteau, our other Formula Senior driver, and I think having him with SH Karting will make us a stronger team."

Walker now takes a weekend off before heading to Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix on June 12, where he will be at the wheel of his Jonak Brothers Racing #40 Oakville Honda Civic in the Honda Michelin Challenge Series race.
