Winnipeg racer to compete in Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels
TORONTO, ONTARIO - Innisfil, Ontario based CMP Motorsports has announced that it will field an entry for Winnipeg racer Ward Imrie in the 2004 Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels.
"We are really happy to have Ward join CMP Motorsports for 2004," owner Tony Launi said. "His reputation as a top shifter kart driver is well known, and we are looking forward to him driving for us in 2004."
Imrie will take over the drive vacated by Frank Launi, who finished third in headline Formula Senior class of the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels in 2003. Launi was selected to be part of the Sunoco Ultra 94 team in 2004 and he wants to concentrate on that assignment. "My goal is to win the Bridgestone F2000 series this year," Launi said. "I want to make the most of the opportunity Ron Fellows and Sunoco have given me."
Imrie, for his part is happy to be back in a kart, after spending two years on the Barber Dodge Scholarship program in both the Formula Dodge National Championship and Barber Dodge Pro Series. "I still really like shifter kart racing, and the last couple of years I have watched the Sunoco Ron Fellow Karting Championship really grow. It is very competitive and I really wanted to race in that series. Now, thanks to Tony and Frank Launi, I have the chance to get in what I think is the most competitive series and class in North America."
The opening race of the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship will be held at Goodwood Kartways on May 1-2. Imrie is scheduled to test a week before the first event to get accustomed to his new CMP Motorsports ride. "CMP Motorsports is committed to this championship, and they have good equipment. I can't wait for the first test."
