Morad wins SRFKC opener in Formula Senior
Daniel Morad takes pole and win at Goodwood.
GOODWOOD, ONTARIO Markham's Daniel Morad made the most of his first Canadian weekend as a Senior class driver at the opening round of the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship presented by Toronto Star Wheels.
Morad, took his First Kart / SRA powered ICC machine to the pole on Sunday morning. "It was a good qualifying session for us," Morad said. "Paul [Lapierre] hit the setup perfectly for the second session, and that gave us the pole. We timed when we went out perfectly to give us the best shot at the pole, and it worked. The new format of two ten minute sessions means much more strategy comes into play, and for us, it worked out well this time."
Morad, took the start, and held the lead for the first six laps before being passed for the lead but it didn't worry the seasoned First Kart driver. "Once he was past, I could measure his pace, and I knew I could go back by when I wanted to," Morad said.
With a 30 lap feature, pace was an important thing, and when the time was right, Morad re-took the lead and went on to a .775 second victory. "I really wanted this one," Morad said. "It is my first senior class win in Canada, and it is a great way for our First Kart/ SRA /Maple Leaf Mortgages to start the year here in Canada."
Morad also took home the coveted GM Winners Circle award for outstanding competition skills and sportsmanship. "This award from GM means a lot to me, and to have it presented by Ron Fellows is a huge honour," Morad said.
With the pole and win, Morad will lead the points in the headline Formula Senior class heading into round 2 at Sutton in two weeks time.
