Willis Brothers / CRG Race Team participated in the 3rd 2001 Regional SKUSA event of the season June 10 at the Circleville Raceway in Circleville Ohio. The event drew about100 karts in the 8 divisions offered.

The Willis Brothers/CRG Team brought 5 team drivers to participate in 3 classes. Representing the Willis Brothers Team at this event were Chris Leonard and Peter Koch in K-1 (80 Sr) with their CRG Demon and Rebel respectively, Matt Melster and Graham Rahal in 80cc Junior with their CRG Demons and Jesse Fischbach in 60cc Junior with his 60 Cadet.

Race weekend 3 had Chris Leonard run away with the heat race and feature. Only a probable timing error kept Chris from a clean sweep of fast qualifier, fastest race lap, heat and feature wins. Chris had to settle for 3 out of 4 by being credited with being second fast qualifier. Pete Koch struggled with handling problems but still managed to finish the heat and feature in 3rd place barely missing a 2nd place finish, due to lapped traffic, in the feature. The WBR/CRG 80 Senior program is continuing to show itself as the class of the field and the Team to beat.

In the 80cc Junior group, Graham Rahal and Matt Melster qualified in the 2nd and 3rd spots respectively. The heat had them finish this way as well. The feature had both drivers get excellent starts with Graham running 2nd and Matt in 3rd. Unfortunately, Graham would not finish due to a mechanical problem. Matt went on to finish 2nd. This was the first non-finish of the season for the 80 Junior program. Both drivers are continuing to improve and the first win is getting closer.

Jesse Fischbach ran in the 60cc Junior class again this weekend. He continues to show great progress in this class. Jesse is going to be a factor at the next level when his age allows him to move up. The Willis Brothers/CRG Team is lucky to have another strong driver ready to move up to the next level.

Super Pro driver James Willis missed this event in preparation for the very prestigious invitational FIA/CIK international race being held in Montreal Canada next weekend. James is among 20 drivers from North America who will be competing in this event which is being held in conjunction with Round 1 of the FIA/CIK Karting World Championships. This will be an excellent opportunity to showcase our talents in front of a world audience.

Other Team notes- Rahal tuner Clay Filson ran the 125 G-1/G-2 class (35 & over) finishing 7th. Another strong showing for a rookie season.

Our next event is Round 2 of the SKUSA Promoto Tour 2001 in Barrie Canada June 22-24. This is a temporary circuit run through the streets of Barrie. Barrie is a small town about 30 minutes north of Toronto. This annual event draws very large crowds and this year is sponsored by Pepsi and will have television coverage (ESPN) this year. All drivers except Jesse Fischbach are planning on entering this event.
