TONY KART EAST DRIVERS SET FOR SKUSA SUPERNATIONALS
"Four drivers look to bring home SuperNationals glory for Tony Kart East"
Indianapolis, Indiana -- November 12, 2009 -- With the year's biggest race on the horizon, Tony Kart East is pleased to announce a four kart team that will compete at the 2009 Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) SuperNationals. With the event taking place from November 18 -- 22 at the Rio All Suites Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, Tony Kart East will have drivers competing in G1, S5, S3 and TaG Junior as they look to take home a few wins from the prestigious event.
Competing in the TaG Junior category will be Canadian pilot Phillip Orcic. The 2009 season has seen the young Canadian travel the globe in search of karting success. In May, Orcic claimed a solid double victory in the Rotax Junior category at the Western Canadian Championships. The talented junior driver led the way in a talent-filled Rotax class and dominated the action at Greg Moore Raceway in Vancouver, British Columbia. Prior to this event, Orcic had competed in the Gatorz Challenge of the Americas program claiming two wins and three podiums on his way to a third place finish in the overall point standings.
Phillip also traveled to Germany in 2009 to compete in the ultra competitive KF3 division. Racing against some of the world's best, Orcic made North America proud by running at the front half of the field and claiming a top ten result in both German and European Championship events.
Running in the S5 junior shifter division will be Floridian AJ Myers. The avid karter has been a front runner in the Rotax class in Florida and is a strong competitor. In 2008, Myers became the Rotax Mini Max US National champion and that same season was the North Florida Karting Series Mini Max Champion as well. Myers has been testing a lot lately in the Sunshine State as he has moved to the gearbox categories. Turning several laps at the Orlando Karting Center over the past few months, Myers looks to turn those laps into a win in Las Vegas.
The father-son duo of Kurt and Cole Mathewson will compete in the G1 and S3 divisions respectively at the SuperNationals. Kurt, who is the reigning Masters Shifter Rock Island Grand Prix champion, will make his Tony Kart debut in Sin City as he looks to add another win to his impressive resume of results.
Cole, the younger of the two Mathewson's, will compete in the S3 division as he too looks to claim the title of champion at the biggest race of the year. Cole has competed in select races in 2009 but has run strong whenever he has been on track. In May, Mathewson was able to garner two solid podium results at the Championship Karting International (CKI) inaugural event at New Castle Motorsports Park as well as a solid top five at this year's Rock Island Grand Prix in the Intercontinental C (ICC) World Street Challenge.
