SONOMA, CA-- Phil' The Thrill' Carlson scored his third victory of the year on Sunday afternoon, winning the fourth race on the Superkarts! USA North American ProMoto Tour Western Championship schedule, an event held at the new Sears Point Karting Center. Carlson took the lead on the second lap of the final from polesitter Alex Speed (Tonykart) and then paced the rookie SuperPro driver for the next 26 circuits. Speed made his bid for the win after taking the white flag, driving around the outside of Carlson into the first turn. The leader fought back and drove his Trackmagic deep into the corner,' backing it in' to defend his position. Over the final circuit, Carlson pulled a single kart length cushion and crossed the line to the cheers of the paddock.
Speed held onto second as Trackmagic's Kyle Martin sat poised in third to benefit from any interaction with the leaders. Martin's trip to the podium was his best result of the young season. Fourth and fifth was yet another exciting battle as Extreme Karting's Joe White (CRG) edged Paul Tracy karting team pilot Benny Moon for the position.
In support class action, Gary Carlton (MBA) completed his sweep of the Formula S1 division (125cc Expert), winning the main over J.D. Howell (CRG) and Jake Thompson (KGB). After being bounced from a certain podium finish on Saturday after contact with another driver, Garrett Zine (Topkart) rebounded today to take the win, his second of the season. JAF Racing's Cody Brown finished second ahead of Saturday winner David Thompson (Birel). In the developmental Formula Junior class, Alan Scuito (MBA) escaped what would have been a heated fight for the win with Cole Nelson (Invader) when a mechanical failure put the NorCal pilot on the sidelines with just two laps to go. Scuito cruised home untouched to win his second main of the year. Justin Moon (Emmick) made his first visit to the SKUSA ProMoto Tour podium in second ahead of Eddie Caballero (PTK). Bonnier Moulton (Tonykart) took home top honors in the' 35 and over' Formula G1 class, which has been brought onto the ProMoto Tour this year as' Special Demonstration' class.
Full results from all of the on-track sessions will be posted from the track to the SKUSA ProMoto Tour website-- www.promototour.com
