Carlson scores win at Sears Point ProMoto 2JAF Racing driver tops strong field to log second career victory.
SONOMA, CA-- JAF Racing's Phil Carlson put in an impressive performance at the Sears Point Raceway Karting Center earlier today, taking the Saturday main event victory in the headline SuperPro class at the second stop of the Superkarts! USA North America ProMoto Tour Western Championship schedule. Carlson grabbed the lead from a stacked 18-kart field on the first lap and pulled away to build a comfortable lead, eventually winning by 1.5 seconds over Extreme Karting's Joe White (CRG).
After securing the main event pole position thanks to his win in the Prefinal, White dropped back early but recovered to score his best career ProMoto Tour finish after three years of consistent series support. Novato, CA's Brett Buckwalter was competing at his home track and drove a solid race to take a well-deserved third. In the best fight of the race, current #2 plateholder Ron White came out on top of a heated late-race battle with K&N Filters Rookie of the Year points leader Cliff Kujala (KGB), drafting past his challenger at the stripe to finish fourth by just 0.003 seconds. Kujala's fifth has only strengthened his grip on the rookie title.
In support class action, KLS Racing's Gary Carlton scored his second consecutive triumph in the Team MMI Formula S1 class (125cc Expert), winning over Canadian Jake Thompson (KGB) and 80cc Jr. graduate Nick Green (Tracy). David Thompson (Birel) followed suit in Hurricane Racing Formula K1 to score his second class win of the season, topping Chris Mann (Tonykart) and Jody Bandfield (Trackmagic). In the final national class, Champion Kart Shop Formula Junior, Invader's Cole Nelson won his first SKUSA ProMoto Tour event by a 0.045 seconds following drag race to the strip with current points leader Alan Scuito (MBA).
Sunday will dawn with as brand new day of competition - Race #4 of the three-event, six race West Coast schedule. Full results from all of the on-track sessions will be posted from the track to the SKUSA ProMoto Tour website-- www.promototour.com
