Guelph's Robert Wickens takes top five in SuperNationals

LAS VEGAS, NV Guelph's Robert Wickens put on a show at the SKUSA SuperNationals at Las Vegas today as he went from fifth to third, and then back to fifth in the Formula S1 finale.

"I was happy with a podium," Wickens said. "That was our goal and we got that. I have to thank First Kart, Bob Cameron of Cameron Motorsports and Shift for all their support."

Wickens kart was suffering in practice with a mild push. "At this level, three tenths of a second is like a whole weekend. Trevor (Wickens) threw everything at our First Kart chassis in the search of the elusive tenth of a second. It wasn't that we were bad, but you have to be perfect to stand a chance at pole."

Wickens moved up in the early going, and at one point he was third before slipping back to fifth. "We didn't find it in qualifying, but we were much better in the race until the very end. We'll work on it, and I am sure it will be much better at the next race. The First Kart is very tunable, I ran one for years as a Junior, so we should be good in Florida in a few weeks."

Wickens schedule for this week is hectic as school is back in session. "I leave here (Las Vegas) at midnight tonight (Toronto time) and land in Buffalo at six am Monday morning. From there I go straight to school."
