CENTRAL STATES CHALLENGE READIES FOR 2009 SEASON OPENER
Superkarts! USA regional program to host a number of special guests inside the Gateway International Raceway
ST. LOUIS, MO (May 6, 2009) -- The AMB i.t. Central States Challenge will begin its second season as a Superkarts! USA regional program on May 9-10 at the Gateway International Raceway. The event, sponsored by the Missouri-Illinois National Guard, will be contested on a revamped road course utilizing the majority of the infield section and a portion of the oval's back straightaway, resulting in a 3/4-mile sprint track. A number of special guests will be in attendance at the Madison, IL facility.
AMB Information and Timing has signed on to be the series sponsor for 2009. The company is the world's leader in automatic timing and scoring systems with their TranX160 System utilized for karting events - including the Central States Challenge. Their popular MyLaps.com website allows competitors and fans to view laptimes and results online following each event.
The Missouri-Illinois National Guard - the Gateway event sponsor - will be on hand throughout the event and works in conjunction with the series appreciation of the armed forces. The series will be providing free entry into the track property for any military personnel that attend a Central States Central event throughout the year. In addition to the support of the National Guard, Superkarts! USA President Tom Kutscher will also be in attendance at the Gateway event. Kutscher will be on hand to answer any questions racers may have about the SKUSA organization.
Entries continue to roll into the Central States Challenge office from around the Midwest. Texas, Minnesota, and Wisconsin along with the surrounding states of Illinois, Missouri and Iowa have already been submitted with a large turnout expected for the opening event. Margay Racing Products will also be on hand. Their chassis manufacturing shop is just minutes away from the Gateway circuit and they will be providing assistance to customers over the two days.
"The entire Central States Challenge and its racers are excited that this weekend is finally near," commented series coordinator Pam Freund. "It has been a long winter of anticipation and planning. We are thrilled to have all the supporters for 2009 and for this new event at Gateway, which we hope to continue in the future."
The Central States Challenge would also like to make an announcement regarding a tire issue for the Yamaha classes on the weekend. Due to issues beyond the series control, the spec tires for the Yamaha Jr. and Yamaha Rookie divisions will not be the MG Tire as stated in the series rules information section. Competitors will be allowed to use Bridgestone YHC for those two classes only but they must be purchased through the series.
The 2008 series champions will be honored at the Awards Banquet schedule for Saturday, May 9 following on-track activities at the 2009 season opener. The location will be at the event host hotel - Collinsville Inn - which is located roughly seven miles east of the track. Banquet tickets selling for $25 for adults, $15 for children (4 to 11 years) and 3 and under in for free. Hotel rooms are running low at the discounted $79/night price. Garage pit stalls for the weekend are available for rent at $25 on a first come first serve basis. Those interested are asked to contact Pam Freund at 636-262-7678. The facility will open Friday at 4:30pm for trailer parking and pre-registration.
