PRKosmic will see a very successful first season come to a close next week as Matt France takes to the track at SKUSA SuperNationals XIII in Las Vegas, Nevada. The karting veteran will fly out of Pearson International Tuesday morning with Team Owner/Tuner Petri Ranta, and the pair will be ready for practice Wednesday afternoon when TaG Senior takes to the track.
"SuperNationals is easily the biggest event of the year in America, and with 80 drivers in TaG it will be the most competitive event I have ever entered," France said late this week. "Still, my goal is to make the final on a direct pass from the heats and then see about moving forward. A top- ten finish would really be a fantastic result for me!"
Heading to his first SuperNats after finishing fourth in the Brian Stewart Racing Karting Championship in Ontario this year, France isn't just tossing lofty numbers without forethought either: "Trying to make the final is a tough task with 80 drivers all looking to make their way, but we're prepared," he said. "Qualifying well will be important, but not essential. A good qualifying spot will make the task easier, but three good heat runs can be rewarded with a direct pass and make up for a poor qualifying if things don't go well on Friday. In the past I've been able to steer clear of problems in races and am consistent in my ability to get the kart to the checker. Overall, I like our chances."
Ranta is headed to his first SuperNats as well, but will be in familiar territory under the J3 Competition/Kosmic tent. "Having PRKosmic under the J3 tent will be huge as far as support goes," he said of the week ahead. "I've known and worked for them for a long time, and I think Matt will be both excited and maybe even awed to see how J3 functions as one of America's top teams. It's really something I'm excited about as PRKosmic continues to grow, and something we plan to do a lot more of as we head into season two with eyes for the Florida Winter Tour, WKA Manufacturer's Cup and other SKUSA events in its new Pro Tour. While it's a strong first season coming to a close, the team is really excited about what is going to be unveiled for 2010, both in product on the track and marketing off of it."
All TaG senior action prior to Sunday at SuperNationals XIII will take place in the afternoon with the field being divided into four and racing heat format. Heat one is late Friday afternoon, with Heats two and three scheduled for Saturday. If he meets his goal, France will then be set for the TaG Senior final, Sunday afternoon at 1pm.
