OCALA, FLA - Jamie Holtom, one of Canada's top karters claimed the Rotax Max class championship at the 6th Annual Florida Winter Tour with a second place finish in the final event held at Ocala, Florida on the weekend of March 13-14.

"This is a great result for our Control Microsystems team," Holtom said. "I have to thank my dad, Tyler Givogue and the guys at Kart Depot, along with the tuning help we received from PSL Karting. Everything came together this weekend and we came out on top."

The 6th Annual Winter Tour started on Jan 17-18 with two races per weekend. Holtom was strong on the opening weekend, recording two third place finishes. Several weeks later the series traveled to Palmetto, and there, Holtom suffered through a long weekend. "We didn't have the chassis dialed in." Holtom said of his Palmetto problems. He qualified seventh on Saturday, and moved up to fourth in the final to keep his championship hopes alive. Sunday saw Holtom qualify 10th and finish seventh. The championship would come down to the final two races at Ocala, and in Saturday's race, Holtom once again found himself on the third step of the podium. "This is a good result, but tomorrow is the day we have to be good on." Sunday started out with a blown motor in qualifying that sent Holtom to the back of the grid for the pre-final. He moved all the way up to ninth, and then moved up to third in the final, and then second when the second place finisher was penalized for passing under yellow. "It was a great drive today," tuner and father Jim Holtom said. "I was proud of the patience Jamie had in working his way through the field from the back to the podium."

Holtom will now have a few weeks off before contesting the opening round of the Sunoco Ron Fellows Karting Championship, and beginning his career as a Formula car racer for the Sunoco Ultra 94 team.

"This should be an exciting year, and I am really looking forward to the rest of 2004," and excited Holtom said.
