Skip Barber Racing has announced the 16 aspiring racers from North America that will participate in its fourth annual Karting Scholarship Program. These young hopefuls are firmly positioned to ascend the Barber Dodge Scholarship Ladder. After a three-day competition course at the track of their choice, the group will prepare for a runoff at Sebring International Raceway, to take place in early 2001. Invitees who have already participated in a three-day program may opt to participate in any Formula Dodge Race Series events.

Out of the World Karting Association, Superkarts USA and the International Karting Federation, the pool of entrants will pare down to four winners, each to receive a pass to contest the Formula Dodge National Championship Series presented by RACER and three Advanced Activities. The monetary value per award is over $27,000. Notable past scholarship winners include the Barber Dodge Pro Series Rookies of the Year Michael Valiante [co-winner 1999] and Ryan Hunter-Reay [2000].

The Karting Step on the Barber Dodge Scholarship Ladder represents a comprehensive system to help talented and deserving young racers progress from the karting ranks to the Formula Dodge National Championship Series, on to the Barber Dodge Pro Series, CART Indy Lights and ultimately the CART FedEx Championship Series.
