TAYLOR MIINCH SCORES PODIUM AT US ROTAX NATIONALS
"California pilot heads to Italy to compete in World Finals"
September 16, 2008 --Team Top Kart USA and Miinch Motorsports pilot Taylor Miinch scored a second place podium result this past weekend at the Rotax Max Challenge USA Grand Nationals event at USA International Raceway in Shawano, Wisconsin. With the podium result, Miinch claimed an all expense paid trip to the Rotax Max World Finals to be held at the La Conca International circuit in Muro, Leccese, Italy in late November.
After looking very good through the test days leading up to the event, Miinch was close to the top of the time charts in Wednesday afternoon's official-timed sessions. Working with tuner Wesley Boswell, the duo worked on a good qualifying setup to ensure up front starting positions for the three heat race format.
Miinch came just short of the pole position as he turned the fourth quickest lap time of the session as he circuited USAIR in 1:00.043. With the solid result, the Alpine, California racer had guaranteed himself a front row starting position for each heat race.
Looking to make his presence felt throughout the heat races, Miinch went on to win the first and third rounds and added a third place result in heat two to score a second place result for the start of the prefinal. Leading several laps and showing his true speed and consistency, Miinch was quickly shaping up as one of the dominant drivers of the weekend and a favorite among the paddock to score the victory.
As the skies opened Saturday morning, it was apparent that the overall weekend results would be affected by the rain as the junior drivers headed to the grid. Starting in the second position for the prefinal, Miinch was conservative at the start of the event as he looked to make it through the first few corners without incident. The recent three-time International Kart Federation Grand National winner ran consistent wet weather laps to finish third.
The final would prove to be slightly better for the Team Top Kart USA driver as he moved forward in the early stages of the race. Running with the lead quartet, Miinch ran an uneventful race garnering a second place result and an all expense paid trip to Italy.
"I am extremely happy," stated the second place finisher after the event. "The goal was to come to this race and claim a top three result and have the chance to go to Italy. We don't run many Rotax events so it was good to be able to come here and run up front. I'd like to thank everyone that made this possible for me." An extra special thank you goes out to Miinch's mechanics Wesley Boswell and Josh Huff and Jerry and Chris of Precision Works.
