Rinaldoni wins again, makes racing tough for competitors
Terrebonne, Quebec, July 14, 2004. -- Although only 15 year-old, Toby Rinaldoni clearly dominated the field in the fourth round of the Quebec Karting championship that was held in Terrebonne, a northern suburb of Montreal. Rinaldoni put on a show in the final with his archrival this season, beating Antoine Genest at the wire. Consequently, he continued his perfect season in Quebec with a fifth win in as many outings.
A colourful final heat
A Junior class multiple champion in 2003, Toby Rinaldoni was not to be influenced by Genest, his closest competitor in the championship. After trading positions many times in the final, Toby got by him on the last lap. "I've not enjoyed myself this much in a long time, declared the Ste-Catherine resident after crossing the finish line. Joseph (Genest) was very quick but the assurance I have amassed from other races this year makes it easier for me to control a race as close as this one. I think my crew was more nervous than I was: we were playing cat and mouse, getting sheer pleasure out of racing and I pulled another win at the end!"
On the way to another Quebec championship
If this is any indication of the future, Toby is well on his way to another Quebec championship in the ICA class for 2004. With 183 points already on the score board against 117 for his closest rival, Toby doesn't really feel any pressure unless he doesn't show up to the last two events. He may very well score a perfect season with six victories. "In motorsport, you must never take anything for granted, adds Alex Rinaldoni, father of the young driver. Toby will be there for sure."
Best preparation for the Stars of Tomorrow series
The Quebec championship remains nevertheless one of the Toby's goals for 2004, but these events represent a perfect launch pad before entering the American series Stars of Tomorrow supported by legend Bobby Rahal. Toby is determined to extend his podium streak south of the border and, in order to reach such a goal, he will begin a series of testing sessions next week before he heads to North Carolina for the next round in two weeks.
