Series continues championship battle in Northern California after six-week hiatus

TEMECULA, CA (June 3, 2010) - After a six-week break, the Superkarts! USA ProKart Challenge North is set to return to action on June 11-12 at the Jim Russell International Karting Center. The event will be the fourth round of the six-race championship with the fourth different track configuration layout, utilizing the same 'reverse national' layout that was used in April for the SKUSA SpringNationals. Nine categories will do battle on the track with the championship battles heating up.

The headline S1 Pro Stock Moto category has seen three different winners - but the same name at the top of the standings since the first green flag. SKUSA Pro Tour championship leader Fritz Leesmann holds the advantage in the PKC North standings, thanks to his victory in round one and runner-up last month. Round two winner Nic LeDuc has shown great potency in his first year aboard a shifterkart, and holds the challenger role with veteran Brett Buckwalter and young-gun Tommy Thompson in pursuit. The fight in S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto remains close, as Matt Alcorn currently holds the top spot. Jared Woolf and Neil Joseph sit in the wings, waiting to overtake Alcorn. Both Alcorn and Joseph have a feature win to their credit, while Woolf is striving to claim his first trip to the top of the podium for the year.

Veteran Larry Fraser swept round three in May to put a slight stranglehold on the competitive TaG Senior championship chase. With two wins on the year, Fraser holds a solid advantage over Bobby Kelley, David Harwin and Jess Peterson. As we have seen in TaG racing, anything is possible, so Fraser will not be tentative heading into the fourth round. With nearly a complete sweep over the course of the first three rounds, Jeff Smith has things in his favor in the S4 Master Stock Moto division. Going three for three in feature wins has Smith leading by a large margin over Alex Keith and Jim Inglebright, who will try to break the streak next weekend. Ethan Wilson has nearly matched Smith's records in the TaG Master category. Two feature wins on the year have Wilson holding a sizable lead in the point chase over Jeff Deehan and Peter Workum, with anything still possible in the second half of the season.

The S3 Novice Stock Moto is still growing in its first year in the PKC North program, and is expected to see new entries in the final three rounds. Chris Yettito currently leads the standings with his two victories. In Junior competition, Kathryn Cornell is the only driver to score two wins in HPV-2 Junior and TaG Junior. She heads into round four leading the HPV-2 Junior standings over Jack Freese and round three winner Daniel Langon. In TaG Junior, Niki Luna's consistency has him at the top of the point order, with Cornell and Deven Sanchez giving chase. Langon has been near perfect in the S5 Junior Stock Moto, holding three wins on the year and well on his way toward the season championship.

The fourth round of the six-race PKC North championship will begin on June 11 with a practice day, as on-track activities will take place from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. A Friday night complimentary BBQ dinner at the track is tentatively scheduled following practice (PKC is looking for a sponsor). Race pre-registrations are currently being accepted, with racers able to save $35 on their entry fees by submitting an entry prior to midnight on Wednesday, June 9. SKUSA memberships will be mandatory for the event, and forms are available on the SKUSA or ProKart Challenge websites. Trailer parking is available starting Thursday afternoon. Pit spots will all be handled on a first-come, first-served basis - no reserved spots or extra fees necessary. Camping on site will be permitted Friday and Saturday night at no charge. A tentative schedule for race day, host hotel information along with more information on the event can be found at the PKC event page:

The fourth round of the PKC North will be the last event before the next stop on the SKUSA North American Pro Tour, the SKUSA SummerNationals - set for July 16-18 at the USA International Raceway in Shawano, Wisconsin. ProKart Challenge South will also hold one more event prior to the SKUSA SummerNationals, on June 25-26 at Buttonwillow Raceway. Following the Pro Tour date, the regional programs return to action at the famed 'ProKart Challenge West Coast Shootout', which will host the fifth round of the North Program and the final round of the South program at one facility. The North versus South shootout will take place August 13-14 at the Santa Maria Kart Track. The North series will then wrap up September 3-4, back at the Infineon Raceway facility for the sixth and final round.
