Road Racing Series 2011 schedule nears completion
10.19.2010 - With the traditional season opener at Daytona International Speedway for the Dunlop Tire National Road Race Series driven by Mazda postponed this December due to the continued repaving project of the 2.5-mile superspeedway, WKA officials have been working with the various karting clubs to determine the best laid schedule for the 2011 season.
Headlining the season opener will be an early February return to Roebling Road Raceway in Savannah, Georgia, with the Southern Kart Club February 11-13. Many will remember an early Savannah race a few years back the last time Daytona was not on the schedule. The southern theme in the early part of the season will continue one month later with stop No. 2 taking place at the Carolina Motorsports Park in Kershaw, S.C., March 11-13.
With the shift in scheduling for Roebling Road, there will be no May race this season, giving national competitors a three-month break until June 17-19, at which point they will venture to the famed Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, under the watchful eye of the Dart Kart Club.
The summer grind will be alleviated by dropping one race in July, thus giving competitors over a month to prepare for the Grand Nationals with the Woodbridge Kart Club at VIRginia International Raceway in Danville, Va., July 29-31. A few weeks later, Dart Kart Club will present its traditional August race at the Putnam Park Road Course in Mount Meridian, Ind., August 19-21.
The remaining dates and venues will be announced shortly, which will include a September event for the Woodbridge Kart Club. With just a couple blanks left to fill, WKA officials are happy with the spacing of the 2011 schedule, allowing many competitors a little more time between national events next year, helping them also attend many of their regional events. The 2011 Class Structure will also be announced shortly.
Additionally, talks between WKA and Daytona Int'l have continued for the 2011 season with the hope of working out a return of the high-speed warriors to the high banks of the World Center of Racing.

WKA congratulates McMurray on Charlotte win, outstanding season
10.19.2010 - WKA officials were once again proud to see Jamie McMurray race to another NASCAR Sprint Cup victory Saturday night at Charlotte Motor Speedway. McMurray's third win of the season came after his triumphs in the season's two biggest races, the Daytona 500 and Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis.
McMurray, a current WKA member and occasional George Kugler / Bridgestone Manufacturer's Cup Series driven by Mazda racer when his schedule permits, has clearly put together his best NASCAR season while driving the Earnhardt Ganassi Racing No. 1. Saturday's win marked the sixth Sprint Cup triumph of his career and it came at the track where he won his first series victory in 2002 in just his second Cup start.
A native of Joplin, Missouri, McMurray grew up racing sprint and enduro-style go-karts before moving to stock cars. A few years ago he returned to his roots and started running a TaG kart at Man Cup nationals and other selected events.
McMurray said he plans to run the Manufacturer's Cup Margay Sprint Championships this December at Daytona Int'l Speedway.
