Unfounded rumors regarding sale of WKA
04.15.2010 - For the past two days the World Karting Association officers and staff have received numerous calls regarding a rumor that the Association is being sold. To set the record straight, WKA is a member-owned, non-stock, not-for-profit corporation. WKA is owned by its members and cannot be sold.
The rumor appears to have been based on a business meeting held between three of WKA's officers and the principals of Championship Karting International at last week's CKI event at New Castle (Ind.) Motorsports Park. For the past 12 months, CKI has been a user of WKA's pit pass program, and all CKI competitors must be WKA members. Also, CKI is bringing international karting to the US with a WSK event at New Jersey Motorsports Park July 30 to August 1. WKA is the ACCUS sanctioning body for FIA/CIK in the US and, as such, will provide licenses to the international competitors.
Recently CKI's principals have proposed several additional ways that WKA and CKI can work together to promote the sport of karting. The purpose of last weekend's meetings was to discuss these proposals. WKA President Rick Dresang was present at the New Castle meetings, and he reported that the discussions were very open and productive. WKA has invited CKI's principals to attend its next board meeting on June 4 and 5 to meet the trustees, answer questions, and present the organization's plans and programs.

Tires announced for remainder of Speedway Dirt season
04.15.2010 - With the bulk of the season still to come for competitors on the Briggs & Stratton Speedway Dirt Series, WKA officials have formally announced the tire selection for the balance of the 2010 season.
As the series makes it's way to Margarettsville (N.C.) Speedway June 18-20 for the ITSTV.TV Nationals, competitors will have the choice of three compounds - Firestone, Vega and Hoosier. The tire procedures will remain the same as in 2009, with competitors required to run one of these three brands on the right sides. Teams may run their choice on the left side.
This rule applies to ALL classes, including the Builder Prepared Box Stock and Pure Stock classes, formally known as International Stock.
