WKA's Pit Board - 12.30.2009
Another successful and safe KartWeek is complete
12.30.2009 -- At about 7:20 p.m., the final checkered flag waved under the lights at the Dirt World Championships, officially ending 2009's version of Daytona KartWeek by Cometic Gasket.
The week went very smoothly and, most importantly, safely. There was only one transport all week, which resulted from a hard accident in the Speedway Dirt Unlimited 2 Cycle feature event late Wednesday afternoon. Jeff Kough hit the spun-out kart of Jason Ferguson in the 20-lap Unlimited main, and was conscious but complaining of back pains. Safety officials transported Kough to a local hospital, where he'll be attended to. WKA sends its well wishes out to Kough as well as his family and race team.
The Road Racing and Manufacturer's Cup programs went off without a hitch on the final day of KartWeek. There were no red flags in either series and outstanding racing took place at both the sprint track and the superspeedway road course. The Speedway Dirt features started around 3:30 p.m., and competitive racing followed throughout the rest of the afternoon and evening. The largest class at the dirt track was Briggs Medium, which saw 32 Animal-powered karts take the green flag. Josh Robinson got the win over C.J. Waldron.
The rest of Wednesday's Speedway Dirt winners were Kyle Bowers, Aaron Weed, Austin Berry, Shay Chavous, Mitch Hendrix, Donnie Nall, Travis Camp, Trey Mishue and Matthew Boyd. For unofficial Dirt World Championship results, go to www.worldkarting.com/pg/series/ds/2010/ds-daytona.html.

Night has fallen on Daytona Beach and after a nice 70-degree day, it's chilly once again. Many teams have already started out for home, while others will wait till the morning or even after the new year comes in tomorrow night.
