Edwards Wins Karts Career First Feature

Spring Run, PA_ Richie Edwards was a thrilled racer after winning his first Path Valley feature in Kids Karts Saturday at the Path Valley Speedway Park.

Richie outran Gavyn Deiter and Daulton Bigler, both of whom have numerous wins, to take his first checkered flag. He is a son of David and Miranda Edwards of Ickesburg and is seven years old. He attends Blaine Elementary and looks forward to second grade this fall. His father, brother and uncle all race karts, and Richie says he has been attending races "since I was just a little kid."

Among the other big winners in regular Burris Racing karts contests Saturday at Path Valley were Sage Lynam of Duncansville who got his eleventh win in the Russell Tire Co. Caged Rookie class. Derek Sheaffer noted that he also has 11 wins himself in his Jr. Sportsman I class, while his brother Geremey won both the Lites and Mediums class and said he has lost track of his wins total.

Most excited racer of the day was probably Aaron Neuder of Chambersburg, a veteran and past champion stock car racers, who came in second to his son, Pete, in the Sr. Champ caged karts. It was his best finish so far, and the older Neuder said it's a real thrill each week to race with his son in the same class. "It's entirely different from stock car racing," Aaron said, "because when I did what I would with a stock car, I hit the wall each time." The younger Neuder has eight wins.

Karts and four-wheelers race every Saturday afternoon at the Path Valley Speedway Park, with gates open at 10 a.m. and warm-ups by noon.

The Path Valley Speedway Park is located in Spring Run PA a mile north on PA Route 641 from the intersection with PA Route 75, halfway between Port Royal and Hagerstown. It is five miles east from the Willow Hill Exit 14 of the PA Turnpike. The new phone number at the track is 717-349-7111.
