Spring Run, PA_ "Every week the field of karts and four-wheelers grows, but we still have room for many more riders," says Two Wheel Promotions business manager Vicki Flowers of the more than 110 riders on hand April 17, "and we can handle a lot more and still finish by 4 p.m."
Daulton Bigler of Mechanicsburg won for the second straight week in the Kid's Karts, and other repeat winners included Sage Lynam in Russell Tire Co. Caged Rookies, Justin Cunningham in Imler's Poultry Jr. Restricted, Derek Sheaffer in Jr. Sportsman I, Geremey Sheaffer in Al's Kart Supply Mediums, Pete Neuder in Sr. Champ, Chad Walter in Jr. Stock, Chuck Bowers in X-Heavy, Troy Cunningham in Jr. Sportsman II, and Craig Robinson in 4-wheeler 2-stroke.
After his first win ever, Jason Brandt of Carlisle was ecstatic in praising the steeply banked quarter-mile clay oval at the Path Valley Speedway Park. "There's room to race side-by-side and the program is well organized and the officials are all helpful," he said. Brandt passed frequent winner Geoff Gill on lap three and took his first win in the Fox's Pizza Lites adult class.
Path Valley raced 21 classes of Burris-sponsored karts and four-wheelers for all age levels and driver sizes and levels of experience in the Burris National Speedway Series. Particularly abundant were the four-wheelers in both 2-stroke and 4-stroke because some riders also planned to ride in that evening's AMA regional points race.
Gates open at 10 a.m. with warm-ups by 11:30 and feature events starting about 2 p.m. Riders get two practice sessions and then the heat races for feature starting positions before the main events. Gates reopen at 5 p.m. for either Strictly Stock purely stock car or AMA quad and motorcycle racing. Grandstand admission remains free of charge for the kart races.
The Path Valley Speedway Park is located in Spring Run PA a mile north on PA Route 641 from the intersection with PA Route 75, halfway between Port Royal and Hagerstown. It is five miles east from the Willow Hill Exit 14 of the PA Turnpike. The new phone number at the track is 717-349-7111.
