Spring Run, PA_ The complete rainout of the regular sprint and stock car Friday night races May 17 puts the spotlight this weekend and next on the AMA motorcycle and quad races at the Path Valley Speedway Park.
Pending the weather clearing a Regional Championship race for the American Historic Racing Motorcycle Association (AHRMA) was scheduled May 18 following the regular weekly Saturday afternoon kart and quad races. The antique bike races are part of a full AMA Region 6 night of bike and quad racing.
The current weekend of bike racing provides practice for the AMA Northeast National Qualifier the following two weekends.
The Memorial Day weekend opens Friday night May 25 with the Auto Locator Race Night with the PA 305 Sprints headlining the show punctuated by door prizes, T-shirts and bonuses from the Auto Locator. The 600 Sprints and 270 Sprints provide support and the Central PA Legends Cars that produced two INEX national champions provide support with the mini stocks and four-cylinder thunder cars.
Then the bikes take over with the first two of three rounds of the AMA Northeast Amateur National Qualifier for bikes and quads. The first event is the short track qualifier Saturday at 5 p.m. sponsored by Black Arrow Racing.
An AMA Motorcycle and Quads Rodeo and Pig Roast sponsored by Roxy's Cycles lays the dust Sunday morning and afternoon and then at 5 p.m. the National Qualifier continues with round two in the Tourist Trophy (TT) segment sponsored by Bromley Suzuki over a new course on nine-tenths of the circle track with a major looping and jumping detour into the infield. The regular weekly kart and quad racers are off that weekend. The rain date for the two days of bike racing is Monday, May 27. Camping is available at the track.
The third leg of the Northeast Amateur National Qualifier is the Half-Miler and that race is the following Sunday, June 2, starting at 10 a.m. at the Hagerstown Speedway, produced by Path Valley operators Two Wheel Promotions and ABBA Services. Several current and past AMA Amateur National Champions and at least two current Grand National Champions have pre-registered for the Hagerstown race. Forms and information are available at the track and at the website www.pathvalley.com.
The new phone number at the track for promoter Ken Geesey is 717-349-7111. The Path Valley Speedway Park is located in Spring Run PA a mile north on PA Route 641 from the intersection with PA Route 75, halfway between Port Royal and Hagerstown. It is five miles east from the Willow Hill Exit 14 of the PA Turnpike.
