Path Valley Karters open with flash and drama.

Spring Run, PA_ With flashing wheel to wheel racing and the drama of close last lap finishes, the Burris kart and four-wheeler racers at the Path Valley Speedway Park opened their season Saturday after almost a month of rainouts.

More than 100 karts signed in for the season's first set of 15 feature races and a mix of veterans from last season and talented challengers filled the roster of winners. "We had a wonderful day and some very competitive racing," said Promoter Ken Geesey, "and the talent we saw today promises an exciting season and some great racing for years to come."

He noted that in the five senior "boxstock" classes for riders 16 and over, the karters produced five different winners. Emerging talent included veteran junior racer Austin Hogue of Manchester in the Jr. Sportsman II class and Andrew Hogue in the Kids Karts feature. Veteran racers in the winners circle included four-wheeler defending champ Dane Delancey from Port Royal, Open class champion Troy Imler from Bedford County, Sage Lynam of Altoona in Jr. Sportsman and D.J. Holland of Claysburg in the Jr. Stock class.

The karts and four-wheelers race almost every Saturday through the season at Path Valley with gates open at 10 a.m. and practice by noon, so that they can finish before the 5 p.m. gate opener for the Saturday night Strictly Stock or motorcycle races.

The Path Valley Speedway Park is located in Spring Run PA a mile north on PA Route 641 from the intersection with PA Route 75, halfway between Port Royal and Hagerstown. It is five miles east from the Willow Hill Exit 14 of the PA Turnpike. The new phone number at the track for promoter Ken Geesey is 717-349-7111.
