MAX PAPIS RACING WITH FITTIPALDI LEADS FWT SERIES AFTER ROUND ONE AT HOMESTEAD
The 10th Annual Formula Kart Racing Florida Winter Tour kicked off its season with the largest event in series history. Max Papis Racing with Fittipaldi left the premises leading the Rotax Max class championship and 3rd in Mini Max championship after very strong runs in race 1 and 2, which took place at Homestead from January 11th-13th.
Saturday was a strong day for the team. Star driver, Pietro Fittipaldi da Cruz (Rotax Mini Max), once again proved his great potential by performing well on both races. He qualified 2nd for the pre-final and gave Dore Chapnick a run for his money. During the final race, Pietro never failed to impress and finished a close 2nd to the experienced Chapnick. Fabio Orsolon (Rotax Senior), our experienced driver, also held the team colors high. He qualified 9th for the final race and finished 2nd, while scoring the fastest lap of the race.
On Sunday MPRF was faced with controversy, but as expected came out on top; the team encountered a problem, out of their control, with a batch of contaminated fuel that obliged them to start at the back of the pack. While having a lap time that was good for the 2nd position on the grid, Pietro started in the 33rd position. With much determination and well prepared equipment, Pietro charged through the field and finished in an amazing 6th place. Fabio was forced to start his race in the 44th position, but he too showed the determination and will to succeed embraced by the team and finished in the 5th position.
The De Quesada brothers, Michael and Nicolas (Rotax Micro Max), were also part of the team and proved that they are following in their father, Carlos de Quesada's footsteps, to become professional race car drivers. Carlos (Rotax Master), who is the 2007 Daytona 24 Grand-Am GT winner, was there to support both sons on their first go-kart race and teach all the tricks to win races and the whole family made great improvements during both days of racing.
Team owner Max Papis commented on the weekend, "We had a great first outing of the season. I was very proud of all the work that the Team did during our first race, not to mention the determination of all of our drivers, particularly Pietro and Fabio. We have a great relationship with MRP and Birel and we are still learning how to get the best out of our Birel Chassis. I'm expecting even better things for the next races. I was really pleased by the performance of the Rotax engine prepared by Legree and Helio Rodrigues who coordinated the technical work under the tent in a very professional way. What a great way to start the season!"
The team has shown great potential as it leads the championship with Fabio Orsolon in the Rotax Max class and stands in 3rd place with Pietro in the Rotax Mini Max class. The next FWT Round will be at Moroso on February 8th-10th, and are looking forward to another successful event and great results!
