Raja Mardiah Storms To Win in PanGlobal Alex Yoong F1 Driver Search opener
Kuala Lumpur - Monday, 28th Mar 2004 - The 2005 PanGlobal Alex Yoong F1 Driver Search opened the season with round 1 held at the KartQuest circuit Extreme Park yesterday and promptly produced it's first ever lady winner of a preliminary round since it's inaugural round some 12 months ago. Raja Mardiah Idris, 24, who hails from Ipoh romped home by a margin of 5.24s from 19 year old student from Kuala Lumpur, Thevan Nair, in the 7 lap final race.
Ku Diah (as she is popularly known to friends) is younger sister of KartQuest circuit operator Raja Razman is ecstatic over her win as she very much want to be in the Grand Finals at year end to win the Formula BMW prize drive.
She said, "I didn't have any plans to take part actually but I made a last minute decision on race day itself and submitted my entry. Now I can't wait for the Grand Finals to measure myself against the best of Malaysia's racing newcomers."
Thomas Ong, 26, from Gombak finished third just behind Thevan with Mohd Nazri Ng and Kamarul Nazri rounding up the top five with fourth and fifth respectively.
All these top five finishers will make it to the Grand Finals to be held in December end of this year. A total of ten rounds will be held to select 50 grand finalists for the Grand Finals.
Round 2 will be held on the 17th of April at the same venue as round 1 at the KartQuest circuit and after that round 3, 4, 5 and 6 will be held outside the Klang Valley as follows: rd. 3 at Kuala Terengganu's Pantai Batu Buruk on the 13th May, rd. 4 at the Sepang International Kart circuit on the 26th June, rd. 5 at the Batu Kawan Stadium in Penang on 17th July and rd. 6 at the Stadium Indra in Ipoh on the 7th Aug.
The Grand Finals champion will win the coveted full test in a Formula BMW at the Sepang International circuit under the tutelage of Alex Yoong. Two other winners will be selected from the grand finalists by a panel to join the champion in the test.
Entry to all the rounds and the grand finals is free for all spectators and only RM100 for each participant who will get a chance of two race outings for the day. PanGlobal motor insurance policy holders are given 50% discount on the entry fees.
