Traditional OKRA Grand Nationals set for July 30-August 3
TORONTO, ONTARIO - The OKRA (Ontario Kart Racing Association) confirmed on June 3, 2003 that the traditional OKRA Grand Nationals will go ahead as scheduled this year. The event, which dates back to the early 1970's has long been a hallmark in Canadian karting, attracting over 400 entrants each year.
This year the event will once again be held at it's permanent home, Shannonville Motorsports Park on July 30 to August 3, 2003.
One of the biggest draws for the Grand Nationals is the coveted 'Bear' trophy. These trophies are truly unique and are one of the most sought after by any Canadian karter.
"This year the OKRA will have two races for Cadet/Novice and two races for the Junior Lite. Plus we are very excited about our plans to let the F125 shifter and Rotax Max classes loose on the full Nelson track for one of their two race days," says event organizer Myke Penfold. "The event is open to all drivers from all clubs and we will recognize and accept licenses from Quebec and all other provinces, as well as all U.S. Associations."
Penfold adds, "This is traditionally a great week for Ontario karting and this year will have many additional activities, prizes and loads of fun for everyone. Camp over night or stay in nearby Belleville. Check the OKRA website, www.okra.ca for the latest news on the event."
Class structure for the GrandNationals will include, 4 Cycle Cadet/Novice, 4 Cycle Jr. Lite (Restricted) - Ontario Junior, 4 Cycle Jr. Heavy - Canada Junior, Junior Rotax - Ontario Rotax Junior, 80 cc Junior Shifter - Formula Junior, 4 Cycle Senior Lite - Canada Senior, 4 Cycle Senior Medium, 4 Cycle Senior Heavy - Ontario Senior, World Formula Senior - Briggs, 4 Cycle Masters, F125 Shifter, and Formula ICC - Formula Senior.
