First Kart North America Signs Columbian National Champions
Former National Champion's set to compete in North America
GUELPH, ON. (April 26, 2004) -- First Kart North America's Director of Race Team Operations Tony Ventresca, is pleased to announce the signing of Santiago Atusta, the reigning Columbian National Champion in Formula C and Gustavo Yacaman, who received the same honors in JICA. Both of these drivers will be a definite contender for the series titles throughout 2004 from the drop of the first green flag at BeaveRun Motorsports Complex during the May 7-9 weekend.
18-year-old Atusta, will contest in the ICC division while the much younger Yacaman, at age 12, with support from IAME Parilla engines will contest for the JICA championship. Both drivers also receive support from Goodyear tires. Atusta, and Yacaman, who acknowledged the advice to race in North America with the First Kart squad from a high ranking member of the motorsports community, will challenge the competition at this year's Stars of Karting Eastern Championship.
"We are pleased to welcome Santiago and Gustavo to the First Kart North America Race Team," stated Team Principal Ventresca. "Atusta will bring the experience needed to our young squad and will work with Darin Marcus to guide our junior drivers in the right direction. We are also going to broaden our race team with an entry in the JICA division and who else is better to bring in then Yacaman. He impressed all of the team officials at a recent test in Florida and will be tough to beat."
First Kart North America has also put together a team of young tuners to work with the talented drivers. Trevor Daley, Mike Maurini and Aaron De Heus will work with '02 Shifter Kart Illustrated's Tuner of the Year, Terry Ventresca, as the quartet works to get the new drivers acquainted with the distinct advantages of the First Kart equipment and to the front of the pack early in the weekend at BeaveRun.
The First Kart North America race team receives support from First Kart Italy, CRS motors, Mobil 1 and DeCal Works,
