Lehighton, Pa. Opening day Sunday April 13, 2003, at the Mahoning Valley Karting Speedway kart speed records were being broken in seven divisions. Setting the tone for the up coming WKA Pa. Asphalt Divisional Series May 11, 2003. The track was in fabulous condition, and the weather was perfect. There were over 120 karts in attendance for the opener.
This also was the first week that the newly installed AMB transponder system was put to test. The system worked flawlessly and many karters loved the new system. We have a few human bugs to work out yet, and we can see a great year and many track records broken through out the year.
In the Controlled Stock class it was a battle between #88 of Robert Mogal and #24 Ryan Tidman for the last eight laps of the race. Both were going back and forth for the lead for the last eight laps. Both drivers were racing side by side every lap and not giving a inch. Keeping each other on their toes every second of the way.
On the last lap Ryan Tidman had the lead by a few feet when #88 Robert Mogal got a head of steam coming into turn three and a great run on Ryan Tidman to squeak the win out by inch's. Where #88 of Robert Mogal finished ahead of Ryan Tidman by .4700 of a second.
