Satrs of Karting : Rinaldoni, one hand in a cast!
Concord, North Carolina, August 5, 2004. -- The young 15 year-old driver from Delson, Quebec, Toby Rinaldoni, well-known on the North American scene for his kart-driving skills, just forfeited part of his racing season after American driver Guissen literally ripped his hand at the start of the 3rd heat of Stars of Karting American Series that took place in Concord, North Carolina, last week-end. So the doctors ordered 4 to 8 weeks rest to Toby, in order for his hand phalanges and bones to heal completely.
This season, Toby has entered the ICA class, standing for improvement, challenge and action, in order to move up to ICC next year (125 cc with a speed box). After having traveled south in hope of a podium, the young driver from Delson almost regretted entering this race, despite a remarkable season. "Since we got here on Friday, we've had problems over problems over problems. My driving has reached a good level and competition is fierce and it forces me to be better. But just the same, we're having a great season with many podiums," said Rinalddoni.
A weekend to cross out, despite a 9th place on Saturday
Set for two finals, one on Saturday and the other on Sunday, Toby had gear problems during his qualifying, where he miraculously made the 12th time. With a pre-final and a final in the middle of the pack, he managed to hold his ground and he had climbed back up the 9th place when he crossed the finish line. "On Saturday night, we got all the PSI Karting team together to find solutions for the next day. With a stickier track and a troubled engine, mechanical changes and chassis adjustments were badly needed", said Toby's father. Changes were conclusive during the morning warm-up, as Toby made the 3rd time.
No sooner had the kart touched the track that the engine broke during the moving start of the qualifying round, and the incident in Sunday's final sent the young driver home for at least four solid weeks.
