Negri Set for 14th on SuperFinal Grid
21 November, 2010--Driving a Kart Mini for Kayla Graham Racing, Ozz Negri climbed a mountain on Saturday to qualify for the SKUSA SuperNationals SuperFinal with three strong drives in three different heat races to secure 14th on the SuperFinal grid. Negri, who has never run the huge karting event, was facing an uphill battle following an ignition problem during Fast Friday's crucial qualifying session that put him deep in the pack for the 80-kart class. But continued tuning from the JCKarting.com squad and some determined driving from Negri saw him move up from his 18th starting position every race, scoring critical points towards earning a spot on the SuperFinal grid.
The highlight run came after changing conditions brought cold and then rain to the .7-mile circuit set up at the Rio Casino in Las Vegas. The damp and variable track surface was one where Negri shined, moving up from 18th on the grid to take 6th at the checker after just minutes of heat race intensity.
"This has been so much fun, I can't even explain it," said Negri, who when not driving a Daytona Prototype for Michael Shank Racing is often tutoring young up and coming karters in the Miami area. "We had the problem in qualifying but just put that behind us and tried to race as hard as we could so I'm pretty pleased. The rain, it was a blast! We were standing on the grid, and it just started getting wet and I started smiling. It was a lot of fun and I think it was an important part for us this weekend. We wanted to not have to do the last chance qualifying and go directly to the final and we've accomplished that so I'm pleased. Tomorrow will be tough, but we will see what happens."
