MOSPORT, ONTARIO - South Surrey, BC's Jordy Vorrath traveled back to Ontario's Mosport International Raceway to contest the Sunoco Presents the GM Racing 2003 ASN Canada FIA National Karting Championships on August 15-17.

In ICC, Vorrath qualified a solid second, and then went on to win the pre-final. "My Ital Kart was good - real good," Vorrath said of his pre-final win. "I don't think Matt [Champagne] was showing all he had, but that was good as I was just doing enough to stay in the lead. It is important to save your tires for the final - I was able to do that."

In preparation for the final, Vorrath's team opted to invert the two rear tires on his ICC machine. At the start, Vorrath took the lead briefly, before slotting into second. "I had some tire issues," Vorrath said of the early part of the race. At the three-quarter mark of the final, with a solid second place, Vorrath's pace picked up and he reeled in leader Champagne. "The Italian Motors Ital Kart came in around lap eight and then it was a bullet, but I ran out of laps - had it been two more, he was mine." Vorrath said of his second place finish.

"Matt is my teammate on the Sunoco Team Ultra 94 in F2000 competition, and with this event being sponsored by Sunoco, it was great that we could finish one-two." Vorrath said after the race.

In ICA, Vorrath had an up and down weekend. After taking the pole, a ruptured fuel line ended his run in the pre-final. "It was really disappointing," Vorrath said. "But I knew we were fast, and I could get to the front in the final."

Vorrath did just that as he charged through the entire field to take the lead by lap five, but there was a problem. A deflating front tire slowed him and finally he had to yield the lead. "It was really frustrating, to get all the way to the front, then go all the way to the back."

Vorrath will be back at Mosport next weekend for the third weekend of the Bridgestone F2000 series.
