Podium for Jason Bowles in Oklahoma
After a long off-season Jason Bowles has returned to the pinnacle of karting to compete in the Stars of Karting ICC class. He has come back with the same package that took him to the 2004 Supernationals title. While Bowles is still trying to put sponsorship together for his auto racing career, he signed with Compcor for 2005 and will be putting in a fulltime effort to chase the Stars of Karting championship.
After Friday's test sessions and numerous changes to the kart, Jason was able to put his Compcor/Tonykart 2nd on the time sheet and was looking strong for the race on Sunday. During Saturday's qualifying session Jason was only able to put in a time quick enough for 19th on the grid. After qualifying and evaluating the data from the run, the team realized that the engine did not have the same amount of power that it did in the warm-up. Once the problem was found and corrected Jason was confident that he would be moving toward the front.
In Saturdays pre-final Jason started from the tenth position. After making a good start, he was able to move into eighth. At the end of the 18lap pre-final Jason had driven his Compcor/Tonykart all the way into the third position. "After we figured out the problem from qualifying I knew I would be able to move up in the heat race, I was hoping to make it to the top five, so third was great. I know we will be very competitive in the Final on Sunday. We still need to make a few small changes but I think we are very close to being great." Jason said.
For the final Jason would be started from the outside of row three in the sixth position. At the start Jason got a great launch and by the end of turn one had moved into third position. By the eighth lap of the race, Jason was able to move into the second position. After pushing hard for a number of laps to try and run down the leader Jason burned up his rear tires and was not able to make a dent in the gap to first place. At the end of the first Stars of Karting final of the year, Jason was able to maintain the second position and leave Oklahoma with a very good start to the season for himself and his CompCor/Tony Kart team.
"Once I was able to get by for second I was doing everything I could to try and catch the leader but I just hurt the tires and had to settle for second. Before the next race we will do some testing and try and make the final step up to the top of the podium. I have to thank all of my sponsors for their support with out them it would not be possible.
