Coupe du Quebec at Mont-Joli
Kevin Lacroix : another title in sight
Mont-Joli, September 6th. -- Kevin Lacroix, the 15 year-old kart driver from Saint-Eustache, was back on victory road this weekend. Lacroix was entered in the ICA category in the Mont-Joli round, a first class karting facility in the Gaspe area. Kevin handily dominated the qualifying session before winning the pre-final heat and the 15-lap final race of the day by a confortable margin.
" My machine was perfect all day long, claimed the young man on his way back home. Mont-Joli is a fantastic facility where I like to race and we were able to make some useful testing this weekend. I'm taking a serious option on the Quebec championship since the driver in second place was unfortunately disqualified. We still have one round left in Grand-Mère in two weeks: I could earn the title there and use that race to get ready for yet another important rendez-vous, the Stars of Karting finale at Disneyland in Florida. "
Always ahead, but for a few laps
In the pre-finale heat, Kevin was starting from pole position after he had qualified almost half a second ahead of the field. He nevertheless fell to second place at the start for a few laps before regaining the lead. " I didn't want to take any chances, he said. Opening-lap contacts often happen and they ruin your chances very quickly. I didn't have a great start and wisely stayed in second for a few laps. Then I really got to work, passed for the lead and went on to the finish. In the final race, my start was much better and I never looked behind. I was able to concentrate on my driving and went on to the checkered flag. Sometimes, it's nice to be on your own and have fun just driving without the traffic. At the end, I had a confortable lead."
Grand-Mère before Disneyland
Now back in school, Kevin is also back to his regular training schedule. His next outing will be in Grand-Mère where he could be crowned Quebec ICA class champion. In three weeks, Kevin will fly to Orlando in Florida for the last round of the Stars of Karting series. Thereafter, Kevin will start testing racing cars. It is too early to announce what series will Kevin test, but his team should have an announcement ready as to what single seater he will drive in 2005.
