On Victory Lane At Greenwood Valley
September 15, 2001
Racing helped to fill some of the void left in the collective consciousness of those who gathered at The Greenwood Valley Action Track. There was no attempt to hide the anger and pain and the mood in the stands and pits was somber, but $1000 was contributed by those competitors and fans. The money will be sent to the American Red Cross.
On the track, Joel VanBuskirk, Shamokin Dam, drove the Jeff Black owned Micro Sprint from the pole to the checkered flag and had a most exuberant celebration in victory lane for his first win of the season. VanBuskirk thanked his motor builder, Skeetz Hockenbrock, Paxinos, who incidentally, managed to place second to the leader. Jason Kemp, Bloomsburg, managed a third place finish while Ross Perchak, Hazelton, was fourth and Colby Womer, Mt. Pleasant Mills, was the fifth place finisher. In the sixth position was Jeff Furlong, Selinsgrove, seventh Steve Lenig, also a Selinsgrove resident, and in the eighth spot was Jason Rice, New Tripoli. The final two in the top ten were Denny Rinehimer, Bloomsburg, and Brayden Winters, Easton.
In the Sportsman Micro Sprint Feature, Colby Womer won for the 11th time in the 2001 Season! Womer's friendly rival Shane Penny, Nescopeck, ran in the second spot and Hoss Uhrin, Freeland, was third. Rob Pajauis, Asbury, NJ, and Steve Price rounded out the small field of cars running at the checkered flag.
Rookie Micro action was dominated by Brit Rider, Millville, who won his first feature. In the second spot was Todd Hoover, Mt. Pleasant Mills, while in third it was Phil Weinsteiger, Green Lane, and in fourth it was Mike Burke, Orwigsburg. The fifth place was taken by Matt Miller, Sunbury, sixth Jake Starr, Millville, seventh Greg Spangler, Wapwallopen, and in the eighth spot was Dillon Stein, Auburn. Wrapping up the top ten were Deb Arner, Berwick, and Matt Bower, Selinsgrove.
A growing number of the 600cc Slingshots showed up at The Action Track. Brett Gordner, Millville was first across the line followed by Whitney Heydenreich, Bloomsburg, and Scott Elmes, Nescopeck.
Only two weeks of points racing are left in the season, however, racing action will be going on until the end of October. The Action Track is located 3 1/2 miles east of Millville just south of route 254, turn right on Oriole Rd. and right again on Bottom Road to the track. See you at The Greenwood Valley Action Track.
