From Victory Lane At Greenwood Valley . . . . by Than Mitchell
Only dry weather and a lot of hard work will bring Greenwood Valley Action Track back to its usual high quality. Saturday night's Micro Sprint Feature was shortened when ruts in turns one and two threatened to swallow the competitors. Jason Kemp, a lead foot from Bloomsburg, managed to keep the lead from the outside pole, claiming the first place trophy. Neil "The Wheel" Petock, also from Bloomsburg, picked up second place, while Ryan Frable, Penn Argyle, and Colby Womer, Mt. Pleasant Mills came home third and fourth. John Wagner, Jr., came in fifth, Scott Kishbaugh, Nescopeck, sixth, and David Utt, Catawissa, managed seventh. Rounding out the top ten were Eric Perchak, Hazelton, Steve Lenig, Selinsgrove, and Eric Eckert, Bristol.
In the Rookie Micro Feature, Scott Tate, of Middleburg, recorded his second win of the season. Gary Slusser, Bloomsburg, managed a second place finish and Brit Rider from nearby Millville, finished third. Frank Venezia, Little Ferry, NJ, Rick Morris, Catawissa, and Joey Finan, Milton, earned fourth, fifth and sixth. Brett Arndt, Topton, was seventh and Shane Penny came in eighth. Finally in the top ten, it was Joe Hogan, Plymouth and Mike Burke, Orwigsburg.
The fans always want more at Greenwood Valley and on Saturday they got "mower!" The garden tractors were out in force on Saturday night. Rod Faus, Kevin Faus and Denny Faus, all from the Orangeville, finished one through three in the eleven starter field which saw competitors from as far away as the Sayre, Athens area, visit The Action Track.
Many thanks to the A.J. Walters Trucking Company for sponsoring "Kid's Nite" at The Action Track, with special trophies for all of the participants in the rookie and junior kart division.
If nature cooperates, Greenwood Valley will be at its usual top-flight condition when racing resumes next Saturday. Bring the family and enjoy the show with warm-ups at 5:30 and racing getting underway at 6.
