Some of the best wheel-to-wheel racing happens after The Greenwood Valley Action Track Points Championship is settled. Saturday night's Micro Sprint Feature was 25 laps of caution free hammer-down racing for the trophy. Heath Hehnly, Adamstown, never missed a beat from his pole position to the checkered flag despite the #1W, driven by Colby Womer, Mt. Pleasant Mills, and Jeff Furlong, Selinsgrove, in the #17 nipping at his nerf bars for the whole event. Womer and Furlong finished second and third, followed across the line by A.J. Walters, Bloomsburg, Jason Blum from far off Caldonia, NY, and Rick Tanner, Watsontown, was sixth across the line. Seventh was Paxinos resident Skeetz Hockenbrock, eighth was Eric Eckert, Bristol, while Chad Thomas, New Berlin, and Scott Tate from Middleburg rounded out the top ten.
Several Rookie Micro Sprint drivers elected to run in the regular Micro Division as well as their own. Chad Thomas managed to survive several restarts to receive the checkered flag as he crossed the line in first place and later claimed a top ten finish in the Micro Feature. Thomas, New Berlin, was followed across the line by Brian Wawroski, Bloomsburg, and last weeks Feature winner, Eric Eckert, Bristol. Mike Pychinka, Allentown, was fourth, Scott Tate, Middleburg, another top ten finisher in the Micro Feature, was fifth. Sixth place went to Jason Wagner while Jay Horvath, Allentown, was seventh and Lee Benjamin was able to manage an eighth place finish. The top ten was rounded out by C.J. Jones, Hellertown, and Dave Clark, Hughesville.
The Tobias built Slingshot cars visited The Action Track again on Saturday night and clocked some fast laps with the sealed 40 hp engines pushing a 680 lb race car on the well prepared clay oval. Joe Funk, Jr., Adamstown, took home the trophy for first place, Dan Galbraith, Lebanon, was second, and in third place was Tim Long, also from Lebanon.
Racing will continue at Greenwood Valley for two more weeks, weather permitting, with the gates opening at 2, and warm-ups getting under way at 4:30. There are two fine snack bars to serve plenty of warm food while friends, fans and close racing provide the warm surroundings for the whole family. Late season action is a great treat on the fifth mile oval at The Greenwood Valley Action Track, located 3 1/2 miles east of Millville just off route 254.
