October 30, 1999 From Victory Lane At Greenwood Valley . . . . by Than Mitchell
Jeff Furlong scored the most Feature wins at The Greenwood Valley Action Track in the last race of the millennium in the Micro Sprint Division. In this tough field of drivers and fast cars, only a couple of teams were consistent winners throughout the year, and the PMP chassis, fielded by EastCoast Motor Sports and crewed by the Burley Pit Crew was the most consistent. Bloomsburg hot-foot Neil Petock had one of his best finishes of the year as he followed Furlong over the finish line in second position also in an PMP chassis, while Heath Hehnly, Adamstown, was third. Joe Bednarski, a regular winner at Greenwood Valley was fourth. Fifth across the line was Eric Heydenreich, Bloomsburg, then Allan Krimes was sixth and Drew Arntz was seventh. Rounding out the top ten were Terry Peters, Jeff Rhine and Steve Brown.
After several years behind the wheel of karts at The Action Track, but with only a few starts in a Micro Sprint, Joey Finan, Milton got his first win in the Rookie Micro Sprint Feature. Finan, driving for Jim Miller in the final few races of 1999, was followed across the line by Chad Thomas, New Berlin and Kyle Purks, Langhorne. In fourth position was Jason Wagner, fifth was Michael Ruttcamp, Wilton, CT, and in sixth place was Brett Arndt. Seventh was Richie Mitchell, Mortonville, eighth was Jason Tolley, ninth Don Hildebrandt and finally Roger Asay from Ithaca, NY.
Another fine year of dirt track racing has passed leaving many great memories shrouded in a fine cloud of settling dust. Friendships made at the Greenwood Valley Action Track will be renewed next season but are sure to last a lifetime. The Crevelings, Gerry and Cindy, owners of the fine racing venue wish everyone a good winter season.
