TAYLOR MIINCH PODIUMS IN OCALA
Ocala, Florida -- March 19, 2008 --Team Top Kart USA driver Taylor Miinch claimed another two top-ten results at the third round of Formula Kart Productions Florida Winter Tour that was held at the Ocala Gran Prix facility in Ocala, Florida. Looking to use this race as a test for the start of his national campaign, Miinch was fast right of the box and would be a threat for the victory
After a successful two days of practice which saw the young Californian place near the top of the time charts, Miinch and his Top Kart USA team were hoping to claim the top podium step in Saturday's first day of racing action. As qualifying closed, Miinch found himself back in tenth position, but he would look to progress forward through the heat race and final to have a shot at the victory. And progress forward is exactly what the young driver did as he moved into the third position at the end of the pre-final that would set him up for a second row starting spot for the main event.
Miinch kept pace with the leaders throughout the 20-lap final but was unable to advance forward and was forced to settle for the third and final position on Saturday's podium.
"The competition here is very tough," explained Miinch after Saturday's action. "To finish second to two drivers who are from Florida who race here consistently is very good. I can't wait for tomorrow."
Sunday started out a little better for the Alpine, CA resident as a better qualifying run would see him line up inside row number two in the fourth position. Looking to attack and move forward early, Miinch did so only to be relegated back and finish fourth in the pre-final. Maintaining his starting position was key to keep in contact with the leaders during the final but all was lost as mid race dicing moved Taylor back to just inside the top ten. Regrouping himself, Miinch began to press forward but ran out of laps while in the sixth position.
