FERRUCCI SCORES WIN AND CHAMPIONSHIP IN OCALA
"Cadet class dominance"
Ocala, Florida -- March 20, 2008 -- San Yves Motorsports driver Santino Ferrucci garnered two podium results including a victory at this past weekend's Formula Kart Productions Florida Winter Tour. With the event taking place at the Ocala Gran Prix facility in Ocala, Florida, Ferrucci did exactly what was needed to be named the 2008 Cadet Florida Winter Tour Champion collecting 4 wins, 1 second and 1 third in the six race Championship.
After a disappointing qualifying session on Saturday morning that saw Ferrucci placed outside row six, the San Yves crew went to work to ensure he would have a better kart for the pre-final and feature event. The young Santino moved forward seven positions in the pre-final to finish fifth and then methodically worked his way through the lead pack in the final to claim the second step on the podium, behind Top Kart rival Mason Cheelotz.
Santino Ferrucci would once again dominate the Cadet division on Sunday as the talented driver had to move forward from his eight place pre-final position. Ferrucci managed to claim a second place result in the pre-final setting up a front row starting spot for the final and one of the best battles of the weekend. Ferrucci played the Cadet drafting game perfectly, as he patiently allowed Austin Self to lead until the final laps. Santino easily passed Self, taking Mason Cheelotz with him for the final two laps. Santino was lead the final two laps for and took the checkers .168 seconds ahead of Mason Cheelotz.
Along with the two podium results, Santino Ferrucci and the San Yves Motorsport team claimed their second championship of the 2008 Florida Winter Tour, as the Neri and Santino dominated their respective classes, JICA and Cadet.
Jon Nevoso was as proud as ever of his two young guns. "Both Santino and Nick showed an immense amount of maturity and patience in all of their races. I could not be more pleased with their results as they both have 3 more years in the JICA and Cadet. This was a positive start to our 2008 campaign." Team principal Michael Ferrucci states "I am proud of our teams accomplishments especially Nick and Santino and I am more impressed by their sportsmanship towards their rivals as both kids handle themselves well beyond their years. All of our sponsors are extremely proud of their pilots"
