MAX PAPIS RACING WITH FITTIPALDI LEADS ROTAX CHAMPIONSHIP AFTER FWT ROUND TWO AT MOROSO
Round 2 of the Florida Winter Tour International Rotax Max Challenge took place at Moroso Motorsports Park in West Palm Beach, FL during the weekend of February 8th-10th and proved, once again, to be another thrilling and successful event with 200 drivers competing in all classes.
Max Papis Racing with Fittipaldi continues to show improvement and good results, while they learn how to get the best out of the Birel chassis.
On Saturday, Pietro Fittipaldi da Cruz (Rotax Mini Max), showed his great potential by qualifying 5th and finishing an impressive 2nd position on the pre-final, and maintaining a 2nd place finish on the final race. Fabio Orsolon (Rotax Senior) was very consistent all day long, starting 3rd and finishing 3rd on both pre-final and final races.
On Sunday, Pietro started from the 8th position and stormed to 2nd place on the start of the final race. Unfortunately, the race was interrupted due to a big accident which involved 15 drivers, including Pietro. On the re-start, Pietro was forced an off course excursion and fell to the 16th position. He charged his way back to a strong 8th place finish which was good enough to keep him in 3rd in the championship.
Fabio never failed to impress on the final race, and with much determination he attacked through the field from his 9th starting position to 3rd on the start. Things began to heat up as Fabio had a great battle with Jose Zanella and Scott Saunders, exchanging positions a couple of times. The heat proved to be a little to hot during the end of the race as Fabio and Zanella collided in the last corner of the last lap while battling for position. Unfortunately, Fabio lost some valuable points but is still in the lead of the Rotax Senior Class championship.
The De Quesada brothers, Michael and Nicolas (Rotax Micro Max), were also part of the team and showed big improvement in their learning curve, running in the middle of the pack on both Saturday and Sunday.
Max Papis Racing with Fittipaldi also participated in the 2nd weekend of the FWT Round 2, on February 15th-17th, with driver Octavio Campos racing in the CIK Championship, in the Stock Moto Class. Campos proved to be a front runner by racing hard and always being consistent. He left Moroso in fourth place in the Stock Moto championship.
Team owner Max Papis commented on the weekend, "We had two challenging weekends at Moroso. We are continuously showing improvement and I am happy with the results and the progress. I was pleased to see Pietro's level of maturity on both races and Fabio kept us in the lead of the championship with his aggressiveness. In a few weeks we go to Ocala for the final round of the FWT, and we will focus on one goal, bringing home both championship trophies!"
The next FWT Round will be in Ocala on March 7th-9th, and Max Papis Racing with Fittipaldi is looking forward to another successful event and great results.
